We are on a mission to make dinner better. This is seriously hard work around here. One of our best strategies is to hide the taste of things that we do not like by covering it with something delicious. As picky eaters, we are always on the hunt for ways to eat green food. The avocado seems to be a bit of a mystery to us. It is green but tastes good. We found this out years ago when we discovered guacamole. So when we saw a recipe for mixing avocados and mangoes, we thought this might be worth a shot to make dinner better with avocado mango salsa.
Salsa: A Dinner Wonder
The best thing about this salsa is that you can eat it on its own or put it on almost anything. We first started making this to cover the taste of grilled chicken, which is just not our favorite meal. But then, we started experimenting with putting it on salmon, pulled pork, and burgers.
Fresh Mango or Canned?
The one thing that makes any recipe with avocados in it hard is the timing. These things are so finicky! When we first get them from the store they are rock hard. And then we put them in the pantry to wait for them to ripen and they turn rotten all of a sudden. Well, okay, so it is not that quick, but it feels like it sometimes.
And to our frustration, mangoes do the same thing! We always used fresh mangoes for this recipe, but trying to get the timing perfect for these two was a bit much. Plus, how many of you have tried to cut up a mango? Peeling it is like scrapping gum off the floor, and then there is that huge pit in the middle! It turns to mush.
When we saw the option for canned mangoes, we jumped at it. Although fresh tastes just a bit better, we still usually end up using the convenient canned option.
Make Dinner Fancy with Avocado Mango Salsa
Another bonus to this recipe is that it makes things a bit fancier when you are having people over. This adds a great pop of color to any meal.
