3 Easy DIY Bunny Toys for Kids to Make

Grumpy Bunny waiting for DIY Bunny Toy

Since we started school, Sir Albert has been getting a bit lonely. He is usually rather skittish, but when he feels he is not getting enough attention, he makes sure I know it by being just plain rude! I have been making him his own special bunny treats, but he is getting rather spoiled with those and needed something new to keep him entertained while I slave away at my schoolwork. So I hunted for a new treat recipe and some easy DIY bunny toys to make Sir Al happy.

First Make Apple Bunny Doughnut Holes:

We have two apple trees in our front yard and after watching their fruit all summer, we finally were able to pick some! But now we have too many and I thought Sir Albert could help us out.

When I found this recipe, I was relieved to see that we had all of the ingredients.

Similar to his other treats, I started by grinding up his food pellets as best I could in the food processor. Again, I had to put them in a bag anyway and pound them.

After peeling and coring the apple, I blended it all together and added the pellets. I will warn you, this did not smell very good.

Adding Rabbit Pellets to Bunny doughnut Holes

Well, it did smell great to a certain puppy who was watching me longingly. I think I am going to have to make her some homemade dog treats next.

It was a bit trickier to get them into balls than I had hoped as the texture was a bit crumbly.

Adding the oats to the outside and putting them in the refrigerator made them easier to handle. They almost look like doughnut holes!

#1 DIY Bunny Toy: Oatmeal Tube

As this blog is yet to make any money, buying all of those expensive bunny toys online is just not in the budget. The first toy that I made was a variation from Bun’s Best Life video. I took an oatmeal canister, took off the label, and then put a brown paper bag over it. Carefully, I made a hole in the top and then dropped a treat inside! This was Sir Albert’s favorite toy of the ones we tried.

#2 DIY Bunny Toy: Foraging Box

The next idea came from The Bunny Lady: to create Al’s foraging box. Simply cut up rows of cardboard and lay them in a box. I sprinkled some oregano in the box that made him want to dig! I put this out for him every night, and by morning all of the strips of cardboard are out and I have to clean it all up again! It is worth it to know that he is entertaining himself when I cannot be with him.

#3 DIY Bunny Toy: Hide and Seek Hole Box

This is our newest bunny toy from fifilovescakes and I am not sure how Albert is taking to it just yet. I put some of the apple doughnut holes in the circles hoping that he would jump in and play hide and seek. But so far he has not gotten in the box yet. He will probably do it when I am not looking, knowing him.

Hopefully by making Sir Albert treats and DIY bunny toys he may not be so grumpy.
